The Union of Humanity exists only because the aliens demanded it. After a hundred different treaties and countless broken promises, mankind’s powerful neighbors forced humanity into a common defense and a single diplomatic voice. Yet within the Union’s borders, the human race is as fractious as ever. When the star system of Archangel is invaded by the three greatest corporations in human space, the Union is powerless to intervene. Corporal Alicia Wong thrives on the front lines. She doesn’t like the war, but she likes the challenges and the clear-cut goals. She likes knowing who her friends and enemies are, too. Yet after uncovering evidence of alien contact in violation of Union laws, Alicia finds herself in a world of espionage and covert missions. Before it’s all over, her choices may change the course of Archangel’s war—and humanity’s future.
No Medals for Secrets Poor Man Fight Elliott Kay Books
It took me a while to adjust to the setting of this book because I expected it to pick up where Dead Man's Debt left off. A clear statement up front to that the events of this book take place after Rich Man's War but before Dead Man's Debt and that it covers the sort of covert op that Wong, Janeka, and Ravenell routinely undertake would have been very helpful. With that minor criticism, once I figured out what was going on, I enjoyed the story a lot. The novels in this series are among my favorites, and I am glad to have another story in the collection, especially one that discusses the fight between CDC and Archangel that was over by the time Dead Man's Debt began.
Elliott Kay always paints vivid pictures with his words and keeps the action moving. This story was no exception.

No Medals for Secrets Poor Man Fight Elliott Kay Books Reviews
If you have read the others in the series why would stop now. Yes this book is not much about Tanner but I did find it an enjoyable read and somewhat philosophical about what makes a hero and choices you take. A good addition to series and would not stop me from purchasing the next book in the series.
Was really hoping for the next Tanner Malone book. This is a good quick read and expands the universe a bit, but not much of our protagonist. Enjoyable summer reading if you are into this series.
Firs of all after reading the book it was good. That said it was kind of deceptive calling it book 4. It is not number 4 in series. I was at first confused when I began reading because some people seemed out of place it was then I read some reviews and realized what was happening. disappointed I read on and did enjoy the book. I can't explain why a number would put me so off but it did.
I am never a fan of people going back and writing stuff that happened in "the past" for their main narrative arc. Lacks a bit of tension, since you know a lot of what can or can't happen.
That being said, it is still a solid book, and I still enjoyed it. Branches off to deal with a different character from most of the books, but that is okay too.
Elliot Kay writes good stories. Once again the good guys (in this case a Chinese-American gymnast girl) happens to be a very good soldier is drafted into SOE mission. (Spys/undercover agents with guns) The evil corporations are just trying to maximize profit and reduce risk by torturing enemy aliens to discover their secrets. Good guys up against impossible odds manage to carry out their mission and return home safely. (At least some of them do.)
I liked this story very much but miss the original characters. Please bring back Tanner!
Okay, the book might be worth 4.5 stars. Wong is a bad ass, with a heart. Gunny Janeka, what can I say? I am a retired Marine and would have loved to have her as one of my SNCO's! Sudden death in all directions and a pure professional.
A note to the author. Although this was a good book I'd rather read about Tanner Malone. He could have easily been the primary in this book.
